I arrived in an industrial city, which I liked but didn't have the feeling I must come back later, as now I only had 5 hours.
City Hall in Manchester
A great idea in Manchester that there are 3 free bus lines in the centre.
I wandered among big buildings, bank houses, memories of the industrial revolution, saw the yellow tram. I visited the Museum of Science and Industry. I hadn't been amazed by this city, but I hope this bas because it was raining, and I was sleepy, tired, and my bag was heavy. Then I took my bus to Liverpool.
Liverpool Lime Street railway station
In Liverpool I met my host in a nice open air pub. Some other couchsurfers had just went before my arrival, as they had been drinking there for 5 hours. :-D I tried an ale, then we had pizza. We met 2 other couchsurfers who had already visited the city so my host - who was Polish by the way :) - showed me around. I was amazed by the modern buildings no the waterfront. It was a clear evening so I took nice shots. We saw many lambanana all the way. These are modern statues of half lambs half bananas (Liverpool exported lamb and imported banana, this is the explanation in short).
In the morning I had to wait a little before leaving because I started raining heavily (not it should have done, it was pouring). Later I put my earplugs in, switched Stephen the King, the great Hungarian rock opera in, and I didn't bother about the rain. I had a traditional full English breakfast at a simple place.
I visited the Metropolitan Cathedral, which is a very modern church and the home of northern English Catholics. Though it is a huge modern pile of concrete, still very nice, because of the nice colourful windows, and light comes is like God gives intellect to our life.
I also saw the new-old church, which is not so old but tries to look old.
The Anglican cathedral
From here I planned to go to London. But when I was planning my journey I noticed that it is much cheaper if I have a break in Coventry. I don't really understand the logics of British rail, but I was happy to see this nice city too. In the centre there is a huge complex of shopping centre in a way of interesting yards and green surfaces.
I visited a middle age street then I took my way to the bombed cathedral, a wonderful and frightening memory of the war.
From the train I saw a beautiful rainbow.
